Kidnappers given amnesty rearrested again

A kidnapping syndicate was busted by the police in Kano state.

It was revealed that some of the kidnappers had been in prison for armed robbery.

The police urged Kano residents to give security operatives vital information.

Some kidnappers who have been terrorising the inhabitants of Kano have been apprehended by security operatives.

It was reported that the kidnappers numbering about 36 were notorious for taking people hostage and demanding ransom.

Premium Times reports that three of the kidnappers had been granted amnesty by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje when they were incarcerated for armed robbery and cattle rustling.

Maigari Dikko who is the state commissioner of police said while parading the suspects that 21 hostages were rescued during the operation.

The police chief said he embarked on an assessment tour of areas mostly affected, like Sumaila, Kibiya and Rano local governments and that during the operation, a suspect and a victim lost their lives.

According to Sahara reporters, Mr. Dikko also disclosed that a three-man gang of kidnappers were arrested in Katsina State by the Kano State anti-kidnappers unit.

He explained that the gang took a seven-year-old girl hostage and demanded N120,000 ransom from the girl’s parents but she was rescued before any payment was made.

The commissioner said that one Idris Bello alongside nine others now at large conspired to kidnap the step-mother to a member of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Mr. Dikko said during the same period, another gang of 50 armed bandits stormed the house of aformer House member Garba Shehu and shot dead one Kabiru Baba Wuro. They kidnapped three persons but the police were able to rescue the victims.

The Kano state police seized several weapons and ammunitions six AK-47 assault rifles, six locally fabricated rifles, three locally fabricated pistols, 63 live ammunition, 97 live cartridges, 215 empty shells of live ammunitions, 13 GSM handsets, as well as N138,000 cash.

Dikko appealed to the Kano Emirate Council to“sensitize the general public on the need to give the police the necessary cooperation, synergy, timely and accurate information to bring criminal activities in the State to the barest minimum.”
