Buratai says Nigerian army tracking Boko Haram in Taraba

Buratai said some of the Boko Haram fighters are hiding in Taraba state.

He said the army is tracking the insurgents and will get them as soon as possible.

The Nigerian army is chasing the Boko Haram insurgents, who fled Sambisa and were hiding in Taraba state, according to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai.

He said this during the visit to Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state, in continuation of his tourof Army formations.

Buratai added that the military had strong reasons to think that some of the insurgents that fled Sambisa were taking refuge in parts of Taraba.

“Taraba has not been affected by this insurgency since it started except for the recent incidences that are related to Boko Haram especially as they are being pushed out of Borno,” army chief said.

“We strongly suspect some of them are currently parading themselves around this state; we are working on our intelligence and information from some good citizens.

“We are banking on support about their movement and we are equally tracking them so that we get them as soon as we can.”

He further advised Nigerians to support the army “to finally clear the remaining hideouts of the insurgents.”

Buratai assured citizens of Taraba and the north-east in general of the army’s determination to finally end the menace of insurgency in the region.

The army chief also spoke about the invasion of communities by suspected cattle herders. He said the soldiers were also on the trail of the suspects.

According to him, the military, in conjunction withother security agencies, were working hard to contain the menace.

In March this year the Taraba state police arrested two Boko Haram commanders in the state.

Since Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as Nigerian president the Nigerian army drove out Boko Haram in most of its strongholds within a few months and freed hundreds of prisoners of the terror group.

Meanwhile, the secct continues to deploy suicide bombers in towns and cities.
